I read this: EMI/Virgin Records Sues Platinum Selling Band For $30 Million... Despite Not Paying Them A Dime In Royalties this morning and thought to myself, 'when are these people ever going to stop conning & stealing?

These stories never cease to amaze me.

It's been like this for years. The same story repeats itself. But it sounds like EMI are just trying to get out of paying out rather than get the band to pay them. And as far as creative accounting goes, if it's by the book, the band prob does owe them money and might discover it's been spent on limos and champagne: they thought they were all freebies and the record companies were being nice to them ?

A lot of the big record companies are also trying to screw bands out of mp3 download sales claiming that any 'record' (notice the word record) deal they signed included rights to any digital format, despite mp3s not existing in many cases.

It's amazing how many deals were signed decades ago that are now being enforced because a band is actually starting to make money despite no kind of support or promotion before that time.

Piracy will live on because this type of crap
