Speakers Corner: The LF Forum > Live Hip Hop = Disappointment

This is just something i've been thinking about lately, i can't really name many excellent hip hop gigs i have been to - most are like 'meh' or christ that was bad. Good ones include Blackalicious and The Roots, ones that were average include De La Soul, Public Enemy, Abdominal, Dan le Sac vs Scroobious Pip, Wu Tang Clan, and ones that sucked were Method Man & Redman, Stones Throw Records 20th Anniversary, NERD and George Clinton.

You also don't get many Hip Hop live albums, MF Doom has released one recently
(EXPEKTORATION LIVE) which is apparently ok - although based on previously awful live shows and live recordings, most don't believe it is actually a live album as it sounds too clean and produced.

Thoughts people?

I have the age-old complaint with hip-hop gigs - too many people on stage all shouting over each other to be heard.

Since we're talking Kanye (in a previous post anyway), I'd have to confess his live show is something to see.

I imagine Kayne and Jay Z really know how to put on a live show, i've not seen either live but i would certainly like to.

I think Jay is brilliant live. I wasn't actually a fan the first timeI saw him but I was by the end of the night.
