Speakers Corner: The LF Forum > Oh the horror...

Kudos to Dan for putting such a great article together.

Firstly... I'm really wishing I hadn't clicked the 'Nekromantic' trailer - yikes!!!

And I'm completely with Tristan on the 'Dont Look Now' ending!!! I saw that movie about 12/13 years ago and I still get shivers when I think about that scene.

I think the problem is that most modern day horrors go for shock value and gore rather than sophistication and the true art of the power of suggestion, good horror movies need to get into your head and stay with you for hours/months/years after you've watched them.

Most recent horror films are high on concept but low on actual scares or remakes that just try and add more narrative and violence to the originals.

Obviously there are exceptions to the above, just not enough.

Horror's such an odd thing to become in tune with - I don't actually know what scares me the most. I talked about The Shining in the article but it's so difficult to pin point what scares me over something else. Monsters, violence, blood, gore, it can all work but I think is probably the most difficult film genre to get right.

Tripods scare me, which is more to do with something that is there that shouldn't be - like if the sky was full of ufos.
