Speakers Corner: The LF Forum > Artist of 2010 would have to be...

Kanye.

I can hear the controversial screams rallying out as you read this but honestly, I think everything he did last year was huge! Taking the fact of just how good 'My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy' actually was, the GOOD Friday series he started whereby he gave a free song away every Friday was awesome. ...If you hadn't heard about it, the plan was supposed to give a free song away every Friday via his web site in the months building to Christmas, and although I think there was only ONE song handed out in December, there was still a ridiculously decent array of songs with artists including Jay-Z, Raekwon, Charlie Wilson, Pharrell, Mos Def, and sooooo many others.

Even if you don't agree, it's totally worth giving his site a click and taking a handful of quality songs.

(Notice how I conveniently left off the awful movie he released - my goodness, that was NOT good!)

Having said that - who agrees or disagrees?

He should be discounted for making that movie anyway lol
I think kanye makes good music but things go wrong for him when he opens his mouth. Its always difficult separating the man from the music as I pretty much dislike the man so much. On the flipside, he does make good music so I'm torn.

Don't forget his joint album with Jay-Z which is due out really soon.

Artist of the year for Hip Hop Rap possibly - unless he managed to span every other musical genre with his greatness? Or is this a Hip Hop only forum?

Justin Bieber

In seriousness i'd probably go with Biffy Clyro just purely as they seem to have done a million gigs and gone from becoming a cult band to a household name in a year, and they really deserve it.

Kanye has been prolific but prolific frequency doesn't guarantee quality, plus the guy is a bit of berk - Monster is a awesome track though!

I am looking fwd to: Liquid Swords 2: The Return of the Shadowboxer

I did a catch up on Hip Hop of 2010 - and I have to say the Cypress Hill Album Rise Up was really good plus Ghost Face Killah's album Apollo Kids was decent also. 7L and Esoteric was an album that passed me by - but having had the chance to listen to it - I really enjoyed it. Not sure how i managed to miss these the first time round!

Finch: Not sure I quite comprehend the concept of someone's favourite artist of the year having to span "all" genres?
