Speakers Corner: The LF Forum > Dystopian Futures

The author of the article on dystopian futures (in the sidebar as "Dystpian Futures" [sic]) seems to confuse "dystopian" with "apocalyptic". Dystopian fiction usually involves a totalitarian government grinding the people under its heel, like Fahrenheit 451, 1984, Brazil, Equilibrium, that sort of thing.

Other than that, it was a pretty good article.

Hey there, I'm glad you enjoyed the article and thanks for the note on dystopian vs apocalyptic. When writing the article I took 'dystopian' to mean any society containing anti-utopian elements whether they be environmental, social, or political but I can appreciate your point and perhaps could have been clearer. Thanks very much for posting on our forum and please do get in touch with feedback or thoughts on any of our other articles!
