Speakers Corner: The LF Forum > The Rise Of The Machines Survival Survey

Our next podcast will be another survival special, like our previous Zombie Apocalypse and Alien Invasion survival guides.

We'll be looking at the possible realities of machines rising up against mankind and thinking of ways we can survive.

Do intelligent machines have rights? Where is the line between something that is a tool and something that is a slave? How do we know when our AI has passed that point?

Does rise of the machines equate to a rise in the unemployed, would it facilitate laziness and dependence to a point where the machines would have no problem wiping us out when they deem us surplus to requirements? If we didn't have to look after ourselves- would we?

Something to think about, eh? in the meantime, answer the following questions and then listen out for our Survival Special Podcast...

1. when machines attain intelligence and sentience, do you think they will...
a) wipe out mankind completely
b) use us as slaves?
c) co-exist with us in harmony?
d) try to become us?

2. In a world where machines have reached sentience and are turning against mankind, which household appliances are the least safe to use? Which modern device is the most likely to rise up first?

3. Which critical items would you have in your Backpack, to help you survive. Choose 5 items (not including the backpack) you are able to carry during the rise.

4. Which film (or book/comic) represents the most likely 'Rise of the Machines' scenario?

5. Will machines ever have emotions, and if so, would you care for them?

6. If you had the chance to become a partial machine - a cyborg - and in doing so could help ensure your survival... would you do it? Are the people who do this traitors to humanity? how should they be dealt with?

7. Is anywhere safe from technology? where would be a good place to hide?

8. In all of sci-fi & fantasy, which machine entities are the most fearsome?

9. How long before it happens? when will the Rise Begin?

10. Ultimately, would mankind prevail against the forces of technology?

An axe goddamit. I've decided, regardless of which apocalypse is taking place, an axe is my weapon of choice. One of the ones with the claw as well.

That is all.
